How You Can Help

Volunteer

You do not need to be a bike mechanic, or be interested in repairing bikes, to work at the Bike Exchange.  We need volunteers to help people select the best bike for them, and we need volunteers to move bikes from bike drives to the Exchange's shop...using a U-Haul rented truck.

No experience is necessary if you are interested in conditioning bikes for sale at the Exchange  We offer a bike repair course for all interested volunteers...and the opportunity to practice your new skills on lots of bikes.

The Bike Exchange is open Thursday evenings from 5 to 8 and Saturdays from 10 to 5.  You decide when you want to work and sign up using our Google calendar.  Volunteers moving bikes have a key to shop and, as a result, can move bikes at the time most convenient.  In general we expect volunteers to work at the  Exchange one day each month, althought we understand there may be months when this is not possible  The Exchange is closed during the three winter months.

To volunteer, or to get more information about volunteering, send an email to info@BikeExchangeNJ.org, or send an email via our Contact page on this website.

Run a Bike Drive at your place of work, worship, school or scout troop

One of the best ways to help the Exchange is to run a bike drive to collect used bikes. A bike drive is a great community service project for your church, school, company or youth organization.  If this interests you, please read our information on How to Run a Bike Drive on this web site

Donate those bikes that you and/or your kids no longer use

The Exchange will condition the bike, find a good home for the bike and you will get a tax deduction.  Since all workers are volunteers, and since use of the Exchange's shop is donated, all proceeds from sale of your bike will go to support the Trenton Boys & Girls Club after-school programs.
